The Hawk is easily one of the most well known bars in Lawrence. Its been open since 1919 and has been a gathering place for students to drink for nearly 100 years. This bar is the easiest bars to get into out of every bar in Lawrence, fakes and underage kids can easily get in. The bar itself is huge with five different areas inside the Hawk, all with their respective separate bars. Theres the main bar where there are booths on the side, one giant bar on the other with a dj booth in the back and a stripper pole. Connected to the main bar is another smaller version of the bar, stairs leading down to a whole other section of the bar. Connected to that bar is the "Boom Boom Room" and the "Martini Room". Both of these sections of the bars you have to wait in line for, the boom boom a huge dance floor, bar and Dj booth for mostly dancing. Where the Martini room is a small room with a bar and space for dancing but more low-key with and less busy.
The Hawk is known for the place for Freshman to go because they can get in very easily, this bar is a little trashy and dirty but is one of the bars that you'll have the most fun at. Every time you go, you'll run into at least ten people that you know, so theres never a shortage of conversations and dancing that you can have with all of your friends. Drinks here are notorious for being very cheap and fast and easy to get. Wednesdays are dollar nights where almost everything you order is a dollar a piece, and free beer Fridays where during the day, they'll supply beer to name their specials.
The atmosphere is usually very busy, consists of waiting in a lot of lines, dancing and conversations. The music is EDM, modern hiphop/rap and occasionally some oldies. If you end up in Lawrence this should definitely be one of the top bars on your list, to have the Hawk experience is something that every college kid should go through at one point in there careers. Theres no bar that I've experienced that is anything like it. I highly suggest making this a destination for a night with a couple of your best friends, you and your friends will undoubtably make endless memories and moments at this bar.
