Atmosphere - Sandbar is located right off of Mass street, the most popular street in Lawrence. Sandbar is also a bar where they are very strict with fake I.D.'s, so this is once again another bar where if you're under 21 its going to be hard to get in. This bar also has a ridiculous line that forms at about 10:30, so if you're planning to come after dress, appropriately for waiting outside for at least 10-20 minutes. Once you've managed to make it inside you'll notice that it is one, long and straight bar, with the bar being on the right side, and tables and seating all along the other.
Sandbar is notorious for all oldies songs, the entire night. If its from the 1960's to the early 2000's, you bet they'll play it, nothing recent is in their playlist. Every song everybody usually knows and loves, and always dances to. There isn't much room in this bar, so for the people who get to Sandbar earliest will bring their group of friends to dance on the booth seating all along the edge of the bar. Its undoubtably the best place to get in the bar, having room to dance and have a good time with your friends.
It is also known for all its themed drinks, they have drinks called The Shark Attack, Plink Flamingo, and others that are all strong fruity drinks that come with bead necklaces, keychain rubber duckies, fake mustaches, and all kinds of different things depending on the bartender and night. These drinks are just five bucks, but are reduced to only two on Tuesdays, which makes it the best day to go. They also have any other drink that you desire for a super reasonable price, i.e. mixed drinks, beers and shots.
I suggest going to Sandbar at least once if you're ever in Lawrence, especially if its your birthday. For your birthday they'll have they'll bring you up on the bar top and do the indoor hurricane, where the whole bar gets windy and bubbles will fly everywhere, you'll put on a crown or a costume and sing to their original Sandbar song. Definitely one of my favorites in Lawrence.
